MEADOWVIEW DOODLES
Ok, so you have a new puppy running around the house.
You may be asking yourself, now what?!
Vaccines
Your puppy will have their initial vaccines before pickup. There are 3 boosters left that must be scheduled 4 weeks apart. The best thing to do is to schedule your puppy's vet appointment 3-4 weeks after pickup. We provide the bordetella and the five-way DAPP vaccine. Puppies that we have past 8 weeks old are kept up to date on vaccines.
Grooming
While doodles are usually easier to groom and require less care than other breeds they still require attention. Up to 4 months old, you should not bathe your puppy more than every 2 weeks. Just try to get your puppy comfortable with regular brushing (using the slicker brush we provide) and a comb. The comb helps to keep mats from developing. Keep in mind that if your puppy does get wet that you should blow dry and brush their coat out; if their coat stays wet, it will develop mats that can be very difficult to remove and painful to the pup. We recommend a trip to the groomers at 4 months old for an introduction to grooming. A basic trim, ear cleaning, nail clipping, bathing and drying is a good start.
At 6 months old, take your pup in for a standard grooming. Please do not wait longer than this as the longer you wait, the more stressful it will be on your puppy.
Training
Training is such a critical step in your puppy's development and one that is most often overlooked. Training begins the day that your pup comes home with you. Remember that dogs seek out routine and guidance. The earlier you start and stay consistent, the better behaved dog you will have. We strongly recommend professional training, either in house or at a professional site.
