Preparing your home

Crate
We introduce our puppies to crate training and feel very strongly about continuing that practice once you bring your puppy home. This is a great way to house train your puppy as well as keeping him or her safe, especially when not at home. Puppies can start in a small size crate but ideally a larger crate that has an adjustable divider is best. We suggest metal crates; avoid plastic or other materials.

Playpen
While it is fun to have your pup run around the house, it would be wise to get a play pen; 5' x5' and 36" high is perfect. You can place the crate in one side along with food and water and then a litter box in the other corner.

Litterbox
Not necessary but this provides a jumpstart in potty training. Our puppies are introduced to the litter box before they leave us. It provides a cleaner environment and a good transition to your home. If you don't like the idea of a litter box, you could use artificial turf and a pee pad in its place.

Additional Supplies

  • Small, adjustable collar (only use while being supervised)

  • Bed to use when outside of the pen or crate

  • Food & Water bowls - not plastic

  • Chews, antlers and bully sticks
